Text Box: This month we feature Aspen & Snowmass in our look at ski destinations. The area features four mountains that have a combined skiable area of nearly 5000 acres. The largest area being Snowmass with just over 3000 acres. Snowmass is known for being a blue cruisers heaven. The Aspen area also features a beginners paradise in Buttermilk Mountain, and Aspen Highlands an extreme skiers dream. The gem of the area is Aspen (Ajax) Mountain located in the town of Aspen. The town of Aspen itself is known for it’s outstanding restaurants, fine arts, festivals, nightlife, and shopping. The old mining town has attracted the wealthy and those seeking fine skiing conditions. The best thing is that Aspen/Snowmass offers is a lift ticket that is good at all four mountains. The four areas feature 40 lifts, and 317 trails all within a 12 mile radius. In that same area, 14,000 beds are available for the public. The Aspen Ski Company also features some of the finest instructors in the ski industry. As well, the area has some of the finest on mountain dining in the world. Aspen also hosts the Winter X Games. Local Aspen legend Weems Westfeldt recommends Poppycock’s and Wienrstube for a wonderful breakfast. Weems suggests The Cantina, Boogie’s Diner, Hickory House, Blue Maize, Little Annie’s, Main Street Bakery, and Little Ollie’s for budget priced dining after a day on the slopes.
